For those that follow me on Instagram, you already know the news. But for those new to the page, I was on a baking show (cue the screaming)!!! The show is called Gingerbread Land: the Biggest Little Holiday Competition and can be found on the Magnolia and Food Networks and streaming on HBO Max and Discovery +. It all started back in the spring, when my neighbor and gingerbread partner told me through text that a producer would be calling me from a certain area code and I needed to pick up. Faith An (reigning national champion at the time), Grier, and myself formed a team and started the complex interview process full of zoom calls, applications, and pictures sent. We were assigned an architectural style and needed to build a world around that style and region. We were at the top of our game at the beginning with our Mediterranean villa architecture. Faith was our building and scale designer. Grier was the construction worker throughout with her power tools. And then I came in once the buildings and pieces were baked and added the final touches with paint. We had working lights, bakery doors that opened on pasta hinges to reveal pastries, a working drawbridge, and so much more to see. Somehow, by the skin of our teeth, we found ourselves saved from the bottom of episode 2 and 3. And what we made at the end were some amazing memories as we found ourselves in the finale. Our finished villages ended up being 7 feet by 5 feet and contained 11 large buildings, 3 small market stalls, 8 boats and a pier, and countless details in people, food items, and landscape.
We didn't take home the prize but I am so proud of what Faith, Grier, and I were able to accomplish on this show.
